Greetings!
Welcome to my official candidacy website for my run for Monroe County Commissioner (District 3). I've been a Monroe County Council member since 2004, where I was elected to both positions of Vice President and President. My theme for my Council race was Fairness in Government, Serving the Underserved, and Diversity in representation. I'm proud to say that my record reflects solid accomplishments in all of those areas. As Commissioner, I will bring those values along. I am also running on a platform of transparency, communication, and action in local government. Many of you already know of my efforts to bring transparency and modern communication to constituents, such as through my daily blog at Pin The Tail, through my establishment, when President of the Council, of "office hours" at the Courthouse, and through my advocacy for your access to government records, agendas, meeting minutes, and plans. It's time to bring those values to the Board of Monroe County Commissioners. It's time, also, to bring action to the Board of Commissioners. For too long, the board has acted in a static caretaker manner, reacting to events but not getting out in front of them. We have discussed juvenile justice for too long. We have discussed land use planning for too long. We suffer from analysis paralysis at all levels of county government. It's time for a board that is pro-active, dedicated to the interests of existing Monroe County residents, and committed to keeping Monroe County preserved for those of us who live here, not for those of us who profit from our special place. |
