H-T takes a cheap shot To the editor: This letter is being written in response to the H-T's Oct. 1 editorial section, "And Another Thing …", specifically the one entitled, "Is Gender an Issue?" regarding Sophia Travis. Your brief editorial implied that Sophia made a claim that there are few women in county government. However, you took her words out of context and twisted the meaning. Your editorial should have been entitled, "Is diversity an issue?" And in fact, it is. Monroe County has the highest percentage of Asian Americans than any other county in the state. And absolutely no representation at all, woman or otherwise. In fact, other than Vi Simpson's partial native American blood, I can't think of any racial minority representatives at all! Shame on you H-T for taking cheap shots! Sophia is an intelligent and articulate woman who has devoted much time serving this community. She has a common sense approach to government that will bring an enlightened and much needed voice of diversity to the county council. Amy Semler Gerstman Bloomington
