Editorial misguided

To the editor:

I think The Herald-Times editorial board must be a very homogeneous group of people! To arrive at the conclusion you did in the editorial on Friday, Oct. 1, "Is gender an issue?" is actually a major example of what Sophia Travis is talking about. When you lack diversity of the decision makers, you miss out on so many important perspectives and problem solving approaches. If you were a diverse editorial board, I doubt you would have missed her point — which is there is a major disproportionality of women and persons with varied ethnic backgrounds in policy-making and legislative, elected offices.

Perhaps your editorial, misguided as it was, will prove to get the word out that we need elected bodies that are truly representative of our community in all ways —especially gender and ethnic background The community has many tough challenges ahead, and smart people like Sophia Travis and Iris Kiesling are much needed on crucial Monroe County votes.
